“Wonderfully high ceilings crown the dining space, which is framed by a large skylight and opens to a delightfully private garden”

This immaculate four-bedroom house can be found on Coverdale Road, a quiet, tree-lined street in the heart of Shepherd’s Bush. It extends over 2,000 sq ft and has a brilliantly peaceful garden. The house spans three floors plus a basement, within which period proportions seamlessly blend with contemporary design to create a carefully considered home that maximises light and space. The house is completed by a light-filled rear extension.

The Tour

Entry is across the front garden to a door that opens into a wide hallway. To the right is a double reception room; the more formal living room lies at the front, illuminated by light that streams in through a large bay window framed by wooden shutters. There are new white column radiators and a striking central fireplace. Folding doors with fluted glass divide this section from the middle reception room, which has been painted in a rich ‘Pavilion Grey’ by Farrow & Ball and is home to a warming wood-burning stove, with fitted open shelves that flank the fireplace.

To the rear of the house is the open-plan kitchen and dining room, housed within the extension. Wonderfully high ceilings crown the dining space, which is framed by a large skylight and home to an array of Tom Dixon lighting. The kitchen is composed of handmade, bespoke cabinetry in black ash, with work surfaces in Lavastone by Mano a Mano, and black Vola taps; the floor is lined with hand-poured concrete tiles. Large bi-fold doors allow even more light into the space and open onto the verdant garden.

The first floor is home to two generous double bedrooms – on of which is currently used as a study – and a shared family bathroom. The main bedroom lies at the front of the plan and has tall fitted cupboards, a fireplace and original cornicing that encompasses the room. The two large sash windows in this room are flanked by wooden shutters. The bathroom has a freestanding metal bath, a separate shower and tiles by Made a Mano. Original floorboards run throughout the floor.

The second floor contains two further bedrooms, one of them a brilliant children’s room with white-painted floorboards and traditional shutters. Both are served by a shared bathroom, again with Vola taps and Made a Mano tiling. The loft above is ready for conversion, having already been fully wired and plumbed. At the bottom of the house, the basement has been tanked and is used for storage.

Outdoor Space

The west-facing garden is a private space, with a terrace leading from the extension to the grass beyond. The lawn is framed by beautifully planted raised borders, and in one corner there is a unique daybed, perfect for naps taken away from the direct sunshine and with a children’s climbing platform above.

The Area

Coverdale Road is a short walk from the shops, restaurants and bars of Shepherd’s Bush Green. The area is also home to one of London’s Westfield centres and the recently renovated Television Centre, which is located at the epicentre of the exciting regeneration of White City and Shepherd’s Bush. Independent restaurants such as Kricket and the new Soho House members’ club, White City House, are close by. Also nearby is White City Place, a creative campus with restaurants, shops and museums, and the new home of RCA’s Schools of Communication, Humanities, and Architecture.

The house is a stone’s throw from music venue Bush Hall, as well as the renowned Bush Theatre. The Anglesea Arms – one of London’s original gastropubs – is also within walking distance. The house is across the road from the OFSTED-rated “Outstanding” St Stephen’s Primary School; one of west London’s most sought-after state primary schools, and a centre of excellence for local primary school teaching.

Public transport links are accessed via Shepherds Bush (Central Line, Southern Rail, London Overground and bus station) and Goldhawk Road (Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines).
